Molecular Biology & Genetic Tools

Understanding how genes work is key to exploring honey bee development, reproduction, and health. However, studying gene function in honey bees remains challenging due to limited genetic tools.

In our lab, we develop and adapt molecular and genetic technologies to overcome these challenges. A major focus is establishing ReMOT Control, a method for delivering gene-editing components into adult queens as a potential alternative to embryo microinjection. By combining CRISPR technology with molecular approaches, we aim to develop new tools for studying gene function and uncovering the genetic mechanisms underlying honey bee biology.
